This Arrival Page will walk you through check-in at The Eco Camp, with lots of helpful hints.
Our house rules have a simple focus: ensure an amazing experience for our guests.
About Us . . .
After many years as an outdoor educator and department chair in higher education, Alex started The Eco Camp in 2017, with a focus on fun whimsical elevated camping stays. Initially operating in Northwest Ohio’s Oak Openings on rented property, The Eco Camp has recently moved to its own property in Hocking Hills. Pardon the dust while we build the new camp!

LEAVE NO TRACE
plan ahead and prepare,
travel and camp on durable surfaces,
dispose of waste properly,
leave what you find,
minimize campfire impacts,
respect wildlife,
be considerate of other visitors.
The Eco Camp follows Leave No Trace principles. We encourage our guests to adopt this philosophy while staying at the camp.
Check-in starts at 5 PM. All arriving guests message Alex when their GPS says they are 45 minutes away. Without that message, we won’t know when you arrived and you’ll be stuck at the property entrance.
The Adventure Trail
The Eco Camp is a space focused on enjoying nature’s sounds in a quiet environment.
Cars are the number one contributor to noise.
While there is easy access to the meadow with vehicles, the trail is intentionally an “adventure trail”, improved only to the extent to facilitate loading and unloading of vehicles.
All vehicles please message Alex when you are 45 minutes away. This head’s up tells us when to expect you but we also turn on lights, heaters, fans, etc when you send us this message. Please do not forget.
You have two options when you arrive:
Drive your vehicle directly up the hill to the silver Airstream and meet Alex to continue check-in. This option does not work for very large trucks and they will park at the entrance parking lot.
Or, Alex meets with you at the entrance and we take it from there.
Maintain a minimum speed of 10 mph when heading uphill. Don’t worry about flying rocks.
If you prefer to park at the entrance parking lot, our six person golf cart will bring you, your gear, and your team up the hill to your campsite.
We haul your gear for any vehicles that cannot make it up to the meadow due to size/turning radius (pickup trucks and minivans).
Dark Sky Camp
The Eco Camp is intentionally dark at night because many guests come to Hocking Hills to enjoy the light pollution-free night skies. Consider bringing a headlamp.
Each tent or cabin has lights and the restrooms are illuminated with solar lights as well. Trails and open spaces go very dark at night.
Please be mindful of other guests when bringing additional lights and please do not point them into other campsites at night.

Pardon Our Dust
The Eco Camp recently moved from Toledo, Ohio to our new location and you may encounter areas that are restricted to staff only. If something appears to be blocked off by flags, please stay on trail.
Things To Bring
For extra preparedness, we recommend bringing sweat pants and a sweat shirt as your pajama for your stay between mid-September to late May.
What We Provide

Maps Apps for your Phone
Google Maps and Apple Maps provide correct directions to the property. While we love Waze, the directions are currently wrong and we have asked for a correction. We advise against using Waze for the final miles of your trip because it will direct you to the wrong place and there won’t be cell service for you to re-load directions.

Keep your tent dry, please!
Please be advised that tents must be returned dry and debris free to receive your security deposit.
Check In
You may arrive any time after 5 PM.
You must notify us if you arrive after 9 PM.
Please remember to message us 45 minutes before your arrival so we know when to meet you at the property entrance.
A planter marks the entrance to our secluded property at 11520 Grass Run Road, New Marshfield 45766. The property is on the east side of the street.
Camp Quiet Hours:
11 PM until 7 AM
(strict, because tents let all sound through and you have neighbors here)
Night guard on duty.
Please refrain from arguing with the night guard. If you are being told to keep it quiet, it is because your conduct is disruptive to other guests at The Eco Camp.
For the comfort of all of our guests, we do not permit anyone to act in a disruptive manner and will ask them to leave immediately. There are no repeated warnings. Please remember, The Eco Camp follows Leave No Trace.
Be sure to return the site in good condition to receive your security deposit back.
You and your party or group are responsible for handing over the campsite(s), kitchen area, and restroom(s) in a clean and usable condition. You must report any damage immediately.
